We have five cows in our mini herd. Daisy and Edward, the little Dexters, were in need of a new home after their owner passed away. The other three, Chaz, Huckleberry and Hyzenthlay were from a dairy farm destined for the slaughterhouse. They were all just babies and needed hand rearing, it just so happened at the same time the baby goats arrived that also needed hand rearing. Needless to say, we were in the kitchen mixing and making milk more often than not for many months!

The two boys, as with most male calves, would have been dispatched straight after birth as they are of no use to the dairy industry. A friend of New Hope persuaded the farmer to let the calves go to a sanctuary.
